Kids were having a great time in the classroom before I left for my next class. There was an end of the year class party going on. After I finished the last class I quickly walked back to the second grade classroom. I saw John, one of the students, sobbing.
John was standing next to Mrs. Watanabe. Red teary eyes. Tears. Now, he was crying. Crying so hard. Mrs. Watanabe was hugging him and trying to calm him down.
“I want to stay here.” “I don’t want to go to 3rd grad,” this second grader said to his teacher. He was crying so loud and all the kids in the classroom could hear him. A girl came over to pat him. More friends came over to make sure he was okay.
Mrs. Watanabe said to John, “I will be here. Come back anytime. You know where I am…”
“You are the best teacher! I don’t want to go to third grade…” John held his teacher tightly, crying and saying those words.
A great teacher can instill a love of learning, inspire curiosity and inspire imagination!
Mrs. Watanabe was the chairperson for the second grade that year. When I met her and worked with her for a few weeks. I felt her passion in teaching and her enthusiasm was contagious. She has been teaching for over 3o years.
Who is the teacher that has made an impact on you?
What subject did this teacher teach? How old were you? What made her/him so special?
Patience. Caring. Understanding. Positive attitude. Inspiring. Making learning fun.
Parents talk about how lucky their kids are when they have a great teacher at school. That teacher helps their children believe they can be extraordinary. When the kids don’t understand something this teacher will use different approach to ensure the students can comprehend a topic that she is teaching.
