Lantern Festival Paper Cutting Lantern Culture Craft!
Culture craft helps children engage in hands-on creation. There are the “what” and the “why” questions popping out when they work on craft projects like paper cutting. Curiosity leads to exploration and learning!
We are looking at Lantern Festival paper cutting lanterns culture craft, and this is a project that kids really enjoy. They can even come up with their design with the English alphabet and other languages.
Taipei Confucius Temple has shared this collection of paper cutting templates with us. We want to thank TCTCC for this and their great Chinese culture teaching resources for Chinese culture. You can download yours in the teaching resource section.
I have made some modifications to the original templates so it is easy to follow for children. The English instruction has been added to each one so a world culture program can also us this Lantern Festival paper cutting project.
For young children (ages 8 and under)
Young kids will need adult assistance and supervision for using scissors and cutting in detailed areas. Use the templates for the flat 2D version of paper cutting patterns. They will enjoy the creation process and you can provide them cultural insight about the Lantern Festival as they work on the craft.
For big kids (ages 9 and up)
The upper-grade kids in elementary school, middle school, and high school will have fun creating 3-D paper cutting patterns with the templates.
What you need is to follow this folding pattern here to create a triangle fold first.
Second, tape the template on the triangle shape. Then, start cutting with scissors. For the eyes and nose, use a single hole puncher. As to the lights, I use the multicolor LED flash ball light for paper lanterns.
Here is a video to showcase the 3D paper cutting patterns and what they look like after I added the LED lights to them and use them as lanterns.
