Bonus materials for First Mandarin Sounds

Please consider writing a review on Amazon or Goodreads. I am grateful for your support.

Your review will help parents and educators who are looking for a teaching resource like this book to locate it.

Thank you for owning a copy of my debut children’s picture book, First Mandarin Sounds. I am hoping this book can guide you and your child to learn the essential sounds of Mandarin Chinese accurately from the beginning. With playful words that you can use with your child.

This is more than a word book. It is also a tool to help parents and children to learn how to pronounce the pinyin spelling correctly in Chinese. Even though Pinyin is using the English alphabet they represent Mandarin sounds. It is just like when you see the spelling of a Spanish word it is pronounced as Spanish regardless of the alphabet is identical to that of English.

Each Chinese word that links with each Mandarin sound in this book is a Chinese sight word. It is for early Chinese literacy building. There are no pinyin written under each Chinese character. The reason for this is to enhance the recognition of Chinese words. It is how Chinese children learn how to read at a young age.

Listening input is important for language learning. Here you can find the recording of the thirty-seven essential sounds along with the words that used those sounds. Listen to it with your child. Take your time. Pause, practice, and have fun!

One tip for parents and adult learners! An effective way to learn how to say each sound and word accurately is to use the Echo Method created by Dr. Karen Steffen Chung. When you listen to the audio recording you can follow the three recommended steps.

  1. Listen to the recording attentively. Just listen.

  2. Pause and listen to what you just hear in your mind.

  3. Say what you hear in your mind.
