Chinese tones practice cry or cool. We are looking at two high-frequency words and two short sentences that you and your child can use often.
When Chinese is new to you and your child you might find it sounds so different. You might think if it is possible to get it right. Yes, absolutely and especially when you are not practicing tones.
For parents, the more you listen to the language at your level or a little beyond your current level the better you get. Resources that are designed for young children are always a good start. For children, my top recommendation is always to listen to songs and short expressions! And, SING!
Things you can do to have fun and have Chinese tones input are to listen to…
-
simple children’s songs.
-
short sentences.
-
And, an exercise that works well for adults is to listen, pause and echo what you hear in your mind, and then, say it.
Now, let’s listen to the audio. For parents, you can look at the tone card as a reference when you listen to the audio.
Have fun with the tone card. Use the words and sentences you’ve heard in the audio whenever you have a chance. Play “What Do You Hear” game with your child. Do you hear “He is crying”? Do you hear “He is cool”?
Replace “he – tā 他” with a name and make it interesting for your kid.
What is the name comes to your mind when you want to use the word “kù 酷 cool“?
