The holiday season and winter break are a wonderful time to celebrate your achievement this year. Your joyful teaching continues even when children are on vacation! I have prepared a Chinese Christmas teaching unit packed with fun activities and ideas for you and your kids/students to enjoy. You can see some sample fun pages from the Chinese Christmas teaching unit I have selected for you to download and enjoy!{FREE for a limited time} It is a sneak preview for our super December Christmas Holiday Pack!
Have a cup of hot chocolate, bake some cookies and work with your child on a couple (or more) of fun pages every day. Making your own story cubes/dice and having fun with them! What do you see on the dice? Tell me a funny sentence using the word/phase/picture shown on top of the cube. You can make a silly story by using the picture cubes and adding your ideas. Storytelling is a powerful way to enhance language learning. Making it your story! Making your child a part of the story and adding yourself to the story. Silliness is highly recommended! The more laughter the better no matter how old your child is.
“Language acquisition proceeds best when the input is not just comprehensible, but really interesting,
even compelling;so interesting that you forget you are listening to or reading another language.”
~Dr. Stephen Krashen, Linguist & Professor emeritus at the University of Southern California
I love to work on projects with my students and kids to engage them. This is the beauty of hands-on activity. One simple interesting task can lead to another. If you are coloring the snowman with your child you can have different coloring and decorating materials available for them to try. If there is snow outside you should definitely go out and make a real snowman with your child. if there is no snow then use the ice cubes to stack up a snowman by adding a little water between the cubes and adding colors on top of the ice cubes and see what happens. Language learning needs constant input and you can use engaging learning resources to make learning fun and keep it going!
“Do not tell them how to do it. Show them how to do it and do not say a word.
If you tell them, they will watch your lips move. If you show them, they will want to do it themselves.”
~ Maria Montessori
