My kids attended a calligraphy class recently. Before we headed to the studio they asked me if I was going to paint. “Yes!” I told them. To be honest, I was quite excited about it. I was looking forward to being a part of their experience.
They have done this a few years ago when they were little. And, I remember I painted a really funny pig with a Chinese brush.
Miss Lee is a fantastic art education teacher, and, once again, she captured the attention of the two big kids with her stories about Chinese art and the projects she had planned for them.
“Play! Have fun! Experiment!” Miss Lee said.
The kids enjoyed the session and they had fun having me being on their painting team.
Time flies when you are having fun. We spent the whole afternoon in the art studio.
There were no electronics. There were only paint brushes, ink sticks, ink stone, and papers. And, there were connections between the conversation and the activity.
Stories. Laughter. Questions.
And, there is something special.
Being present.
Participating.
Joining in.
When we are a part of the learning experience we are on the side of our child. We become a part of the story. Even if it is 10 minutes a day to start with we are going to make a difference.
Learn Mandarin Chinese with your child together.
What would happen if you can set aside 10 minutes a day with your child for a Chinese Play Time? You can always increase the time as your child advance on the journey or when they come back for more…
